1. Right After the Tattoo
- Your artist will apply a sterile, breathable adhesive bandage (like Saniderm, Derm Shield, or similar) right after your session.
- This bandage protects your tattoo from dirt, bacteria, friction, and irritation.
2. Leave the Bandage On
- Keep the bandage on for 4–5 days straight — don’t remove it early unless there’s excessive fluid buildup or irritation.
- During this time:
- You can shower as normal, but avoid soaking it (no baths, pools, hot tubs).
- The bandage may fill with some fluid — this is normal.
- If it leaks, peels excessively, or gets compromised, you may need to remove it sooner.
3. Removing the Bandage (After 4–5 Days)
- Wash your hands thoroughly.
- Remove the bandage slowly and gently, ideally in the shower or under warm running water to loosen the adhesive.
- Pull in the direction of hair growth to reduce irritation.
- Take your time — don’t rip it off.
4. Clean the Tattoo
- Wash the tattoo gently with lukewarm water and fragrance-free, mild soap (like Dial or Dr. Bronner’s unscented).
- Pat it dry with a clean paper towel or let it air dry. Avoid using a regular towel.
5. Ongoing Care (After Bandage Removal)
- Keep the tattoo clean and lightly moisturized:
- Use a fragrance-free lotion (like Eucerin, Lubriderm, or Curel).
- Apply a thin layer once or twice a day — don’t overdo it.
- Avoid:
- Direct sun exposure
- Swimming
- Tight clothing over the area
- Scratching or picking at the healing skin
⚠️ Watch For:
- Mild redness or itchiness from the adhesive is normal.
- Seek medical advice if you notice signs of infection: excessive redness, swelling, heat, pus, or severe pain.
- If you experience an allergic reaction to the bandage (rash, blistering, intense itching), remove it early and switch to traditional aftercare.
